The Animal Trust – Because Every Pet Deserves a Vet

Love spending your days in theatre? Missing out on that surgical caseload?

Our Ellesmere Port site is looking for an experienced veterinary surgeon to expand our advanced surgical offering. Here at Animal Trust, our unique model means that we have a fantastic caseload that would suit someone keen to perform a wide range of both orthopaedic and soft tissue surgical procedures.

We see a high proportion of sick and injured pets and our advanced surgical streams receive both internal and external referrals covering a wide range of surgical conditions. We invest in our sites and don’t compromise on patient care. Our CT scanner allows for excellent surgical planning and we have all the appropriate equipment you might need. Specialised kits for TECA, BOAS and ophthalmic surgery, a PAX locking kit as well as a full complement of non-locking plates, an oscillating saw and, not to mention, a fantastic surgical nursing team that provide excellent support and patient care. We have a particularly large stifle caseload and so are well-equipped for TTA, CCWO and MPL.

We want our team to be able play to their strengths so if surgery is yours, we’d love to have you on board.

We think this role will appeal to you, if

  • You want to have a varied caseload and rewarding job, with a good proportion of time on a surgical rota
  • You’re an experienced vet who wants to be heard and can help us improve our standards of patient care
  • You’re a vet with a social conscience who wants to make veterinary care more accessible to pet owners who earn the real living wage
  • You want to be part of a collaborative culture, where your opinions will be valued and your voice heard

This is just what I’ve been looking for.  But – who are you?

We are on a mission to provide affordable veterinary care for people’s pets, especially those who are finding it hard to manage financially. Even before the current cost of living crisis, we know that there are many pet owners who are in distress because they can see their beloved friend needs help and they simply can’t afford the fees.

Owen Monie, our founding Vet, established the Animal Trust, because he passionately believes that no animal should suffer due to their owner’s financial hardship, which is why there are no consultation fees charged at any of our vet practices. There are no eligibility criteria, because we want to encourage people to bring their pets to us. Owners will only pay for any treatment at realistic prices, which are completely transparent and published on our website.

The Animal Trust is the only Community Interest Veterinary Group in the U.K who prioritise their staff, patients and owners’ welfare, rather than profit. Any profits are fed directly back into the Trust to provide career development and maintain the highest standard of care at the lowest possible price for our pet owners.

What are you looking for in me?

  • An experienced veterinary surgeon, confident in orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures, who wants to make a difference
  • A firm belief in our social mission – an ability to focus on the pets you save, who wouldn’t have normally been able to receive treatment, and a commitment to providing a good standard of care for owners and their pets
  • You are naturally confident and enjoy the buzz of dealing with a fast-paced, busy
    caseload and environment
  • You are keen to grow your technical capability and be part of a large friendly, multi-skilled team
  • A surgical certificate would be desirable, but not essential

Benefits

  • Salary scale £37,000 to £54,000, with Excellence in Practice scale up to £74,400
  • 6 weeks holiday per year
  • UK and International CPD funded to certificate level
  • Private health care, 52 weeks sickness benefit and free employee assistance program — awarded after qualifying period
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • Access to counselling support including mental health, financial and life counselling after 12 months of service
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Refer-a-friend bonus
  • Paid time off to volunteer in your community
  • Varied and challenging career
  • The satisfaction of working with a not-for-profit employer

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people from ethnic minorities are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Animal Trust we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

Thank You
